Viva Brasil!

Remember when Brazilian tourers touted the image of struggling athletes, barely able to win a heat and re-qualify. They could have even been considered boring and the underclass citizens of tour. The flare, fun and liveliness of Brazil was not evident in the way they danced across waves. But alas, the world has changed. Next year’s World Surfing League will feature 7 Brazilians. This samba field is spearheaded by the new wave of youngsters. These kids are who make Brazilian surfing exciting. Apologies to Adriano de Souza and Jadson Andre, but they still encompass the stale and drab legacy of Brazilian surfing. Welcome Gabriel, Filipe, Miguel, Wiggoly & Italo, do your culture proud. Dance across the water like Mardi Gras, steal our women, show them how to love and bring some excitement and risk to an ageing fish. Dare I say the mainland Americans & Australians are now the ones who buoy on the side of mundane.
